Life in Isolation

Over the past couple of months, the COVID-19 pandemic’s severity has rapidly escalated. Basically all stores and activities which are deemed as “non-essential” have been shut down, virtually leaving millions of people without anything to do in isolation. So, with that being said, what has life been like during the pandemic?

Personally, as a student, my life has been impacted greatly. I’m used to attending school on a daily basis and got to see my friends as well. When school was still in session, I took the opportunity of going to school for granted.

Originally, I thought it was somewhat boring because I had to go five times a week and rarely had time to enjoy leisurely activities. Every day, I had a lot of homework and always found myself studying for many hours as well. At first, I was excited at the news of my school’s closure because I would have an extra two week break. But, after that time had been extended, I began to wish that I could go back.

Living in isolation for me has been very boring. With nothing to do and nowhere to go, I’m forced to stay home and watch movies and television shows. During the first couple of weeks, I would go to a local park and play basketball with my friend against other people who were there every day. But, as conditions worsened and restrictions were imposed, the city took out the hoops and my only form of entertainment outside of the house was taken away.

Recently, however, my school has decided to continue their courses through an online method. This has given me something to do with my time and is a step closer to returning things back to the way they used to be.

What I have learned from my time in isolation is that you should never take anything for granted because you could never know if that certain thing will go away as it did in my case. Hopefully we will get through the COVID-19 pandemic and return stronger than ever.
