Impeachment Is Not A Hoax

Sorry Trump, this is serious business.

How does one get out of being impeached? There have only been four men that have dealt with the implications of impeachment; Presidents Andrew Johnson, Richard Nixon, Bill Clinton, and now Donald Trump.

Thus far, none of the men have dealt with any real consequences from being impeached. Johnson and Clinton were impeached by the House of Representatives but acquitted when it came to the Senate. Add to that, both men were in their second terms therefore unable to run for President again, and the consequences were next to nothing.

Much has been written about Nixon, and there is plenty more to be said about him. Before the articles of impeachment could be voted on, he resigned and was pardoned by Gerald Ford. So Nixon would never have to pay for the crimes he committed.

Despite the seeming insignificance of impeachment, it is still serious business. This is something that Donald Trump needs to think about as the House moves to vote on articles of impeachment against him. Instead of Tweeting that this is a hoax or a witch hunt, he should be mounting a real defense of his actions.

Of course, that is presuming he and his fellow Republicans believe he is justified in withholding the military aid from Ukraine like they scream to the press. Right now, stalling and crying about how unfairly he is being treated only adds fuel to the fire that there is something amiss about his behavior.

When a toddler denies they have done something wrong, a parent can usually guess that the child did something they weren’t supposed to. Since Trump had nannies for his children when they were young, this is perhaps a lesson he did not have to learn. Thus, he feels like continually denying and trying to pass the blame to the Democrats is the best way to appear innocent.

Certainly, the MAGA crowd eats it up like it’s chocolate pie. As Trump stated when he was a candidate, he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and they would still cheer him on. Those people are hopeless. They are so brainwashed and happy they can be racist openly that they don’t care about being moral or doing what’s right.
