What We are Looking For

The General:

Here at The Top Talk, we are not looking for something, we are looking for someone. We are looking for young creatives who dedicated to a topic. In our articles, we are looking for young minds who are looking to create conversations. We are looking for people to start conversations where they feel the old ones went stagnant, or where there never was one, to begin with. As a publication, we are looking to empower young people with unique perspectives. If you have been too afraid to speak your mind or talk about something that you feel is being ignored, we want to be a comfortable place for you to express yourself. As a group, we are looking to build a community where everyone can feel connected to a story. Understanding that we are not alone in our perspectives is important in creating change in our world today.

The specifics:

Okay, so, while we are looking for impassioned writing that is focused around innovative topics, we are looking for some basic writing style and grammatical correctness. While double-checking an article is not the most difficult task to complete, it is also important that the caliber of writing is on par with the message we are looking to create. So when looking to submit your work, ask yourself a few questions. Ask yourself, does this have any glaring grammatical errors (ie. incorrect verb agreement, spelling, fragment/run-on sentences, sourcing). Then look at your style, does your article draw people in, what are you saying (is there a clear message), how does your perspective set you apart from the rest? As a community, we want to create a change, and to do that, we must maintain a professional standard in our writing. We encourage all of our writers to use your own voice, your own style, to work within the constraints of general grammar rules. Look for innovative ways to create a voice, use your personality to highlight your message. Take a tone that feels natural to you, we believe that is the best way to attract the people who need to hear what you have to say.

How to Apply:

To apply to The Top Talk, you have to first email a pitch of your piece to the email, the.top.talk.01@gmail.com . When writing your pitch tell us why we should be interested in what you have to say. Now is not the time to be shy or humble. Passionately express whatever it is you want to talk about. Sell your story, do not passively express how you are feeling. Now is not the time to feel shy about what you have to say, we are here to listen. Although, you should have a draft ready for publication if your pitch is accepted. We will work as a team to support, upload, and promote your idea as best we can.
