drums beat as the heart beats

A machete cuts through the deep dark jungle;
its hilt weighs heavy; caution grips it tight.
Be wary of its swoosh, slice, and rustle;
whose echoes perk the creatures of the night.
Beasts lurk; fear looms, and sleep beckons trouble,
Tribal drums that my heart pounds till daylight.
Amidst vines and leaves, the jungle bustles.
Sun blocked by trees, the dark jungle hustles.
