Are You Still Wearing Toxic Labels Someone Else Gave You?

Maybe it's time to rebrand

Juicy Prompt by @jules — Take a label you have worn for too long. Write new care instructions.

Like it or not, we absorb everything from everyone in our environment.

We take on the attitudes, feelings, and even actions of those closest to us.

Toxic labels are nothing new, but most people won't admit they're accountable for rebranding as an adult.

Quitter. Stupid. Fat. Selfish. Take your pick — they all sting pretty well.

What's yours?

My label is "Quitter." It ripples outward and then back like a boomerang. I used to be good at turning away and never looking back.

But sure enough, the same lesson finds me around the next corner — wrapped up with a pretty pink bow.

"Open me, Wendy"…Ugh

It may be time to empty the recycle bin.

If life feels like a long winding path of unlearning everything you were taught growing up, that's because it basically is.

What no one tells you about labels is that they have an expiration date — but you have to toss them out because no one can do it for you.

Your level of anxiety gives you a solid indication of when that time arrives.

I don't have to be a quitter. I don't want to be a quitter.

Okay, I'm not a quitter.

It's easier said than done, for sure…aaand here come the opportunities to test your resolve.

Anxiety, doubt, and fear are the trifecta of self-destructive patterns, and it's easy to default.

Forging new neural pathways is a fight to the death — the death of your old self.

But you're accountable because you have the knowledge and the power.

Now for some courage…Just do it isn't only the best tagline in the world; it's also some of the best advice.

Sometimes a swan dive into the unknown is precisely what's required of you.

But it's only the unknown because you haven't committed yet.
