I Got Sexually Assaulted Whilst I Slept In My Hostel Bed

Back in the Australian spring of 2018, I was solo travelling, staying long term in an 8-bed room in a hostel on Bondi beach. One day whilst I was quickly making myself something to eat, I was…

7 misguided but common dating advice

There is no limit to dating advice.
Online, in books, and even from the people in our lives. But do note that even with the best intentions, it is our responsibility to figure out what works best for us.

There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach in dating.

The reality is that despite living in big cities, many of us will at some point go online in order to cast a wider dating net.
And whilst we must not ignore the potential risks, we can however put precautions in place in order to protect ourselves.

Consider this: I live in London and over the course of a period of four years mainly dating online, I have only had 2–3 mildly odd experiences.
Not because I am an expert at dating. Rather I put it down to a mix of listening to my intuition, being selective about who I meet in person and doing my due diligence ahead of time.

In our search for butterflies and intensity, we can at times overlook the right people.
Physical attraction is important but I have come to discover that it is not always as sudden as we expect it to be. I have lost count of the amount of times I met someone and immediately felt like they were the one. But as time passes, it has become clear that emotions are not enough to make a relationship last.

We may have to first let go of our unhelpful beliefs of what the perfect partner should look like and instead become more aware of what we need in a relationship.

One of the greatest frustrations in life is trying to change someone who is not willing or interested in changing.
I appreciate that nobody is perfect, but we must tread carefully in this area.
Sometimes we meet people and deceive ourselves by thinking that in giving them time to fall in love with us, they will become what we need.
